Setsuna Mudô~
He is a 16-year-old young man who lives in Tokyo. He has big trouble living with his love for his own younger sister, Sara and is continuously provoked by other young guys of his school. His life will take a turning point when Kourai tells him that he is the reincarnation of the angel Alexiel. Rosiel, at the same time, wants to awaken Alexiel’s soul and gets Sara killed under Setsuna’s eyes. The awakening is powerful and programs the destruction of Tokyo in 1999: it’s the Judgment Day, the day of the Apocalypse…
Adam Kadamon appears just after Sara’s death talks to Setsuna and explains him that only a being that is neither angel, demon nor human can save mankind, threatens by angels and demons. He is the Messiah. Adam Kadamon asks him to win against the army of angels and to free him from Etemenanki. Setsuna accepts on the condition that he could have the possibility to resuscitate Sara bfore that.
Thus he goes on a quest to free Sara’s soul from Hades. This trip needs him to be temporarily dead, but his body, kept in the Palace of Gehenna, will die because Voice will take the blade out by accident. In Hades, Uriel tells him that Sara’s soul was kidnapped and taken to Heaven in the Yetsirah. Setsuna comes back from Hades and reappears into Alexiel’s body. Mad Hatter tells that only Raphael can revive his body. Setsuna’s next step is then Yetsirah.
Kourai gives him the Box of Pandora from Mad Hatter, by the intermediary of Arachnee. It contains the antidote to resuscitate his body. Setsuna avoids the trap without even knowing it because the antidote does not revive in fact, but only reanimates without protecting the soul which would have become the prey of Darkness.
Kourai has then left for Shiol with Mad Hatter and Setsuna decides to rescue her before going to Heaven. He finds her just before her wedding. He kidnaps her in Anagura. After Zaphkiel got in touch with him and learning that Sara was prisoner of Sevoth-tart, Setsuna goes to Yetsirah in order to free her, accepting thus to help Zaphkiel’s rebels. After he changed his hair colour for black, Setsuna finds Sara who refuses to go with him for “ethical” reasons…
Sara Mudô~
She is deeply in love with her brother Setsuna, despite their blood link. She does not see him very often because she lives with her mother who does anything she can to part them. She studies at Stella Mary High School.
She seems to be the reason why Alexiel won’t awaken and thus becomes an easy target. Kirieh finally manages to kill her and her soul is sent to Hades as a consequence of her forbidden love for her brother. But she does not stay there and is sent to Heaven by Zaphkiel who hides her in a secret crypt.
Raziel will allow her to get out of her torpor by talking to her. When Metatron removes the needle from Gabriel’s neck, Sara is freed and finds her brother on Earth, where she appears in the form of a spectre. Then she reintegrates Gabriel’s body. She then remembers her death. Raphael supposes that Gabriel suffered a reincarnation and that she reincarnated in Sara. But an abnormal phenomenon happens and Sara’s soul stays in Gabriel’s soul whereas she should be Hades because she is dead and Gabriel should have recovered her senses. Sevoth(tart will find her and imprison her for eternity, but she escapes by disguising herself as Lill, her servant, and cuts her hair.
She will slowly take conscience of the important position that Gabriel holds in Heaven and will end up favouring her function as an angel instead of giving freedom to her love for Setsuna. She will not go with him when he comes for her at Zaphkiel’s, telling him why.
Sakuya Kira~
He is the friend and protector of Setsuna. In fact he is the Divine Blade, Alexiel’s sword. Because he received Rosiel’s blood on his chest during the last war, he is now invincible and immortal. He follows Alexiel’s reincarnations, possessing recently dead humans, with their agreement and realising their last wishes. Therefore, he has been “Kira Sakuya” for the last 11 years.
According to the Dragon Jade, Kira has changed Alexiel’s reincarnations cycle, after he killed her last incarnation before her time, in order to avoid a cruel death for her. He does not remember his true identity, the one he had before being imprisoned in the Divine Blade, and Alexiel is the one who knows it.
After an another of his many wounds, his body is about to die. He is healed by a mysterious being who came out of the ground. When Setsuna evolves in Shiol, he feels familiar with this atmosphere, believes that someone is calling him, and decides to go ther in order to find the reasons for his sudden feelings.
Always following and helping Setsuna by the Divine Blade, his body is tiring and he knows that he won’t live much longer. He decides to protect Setsuna during a fight against Rosiel, mais more powerful, Rosiel will kill Kira. Thus, Kira Sakuya’s soul is free and taken by Rosiel who will make a new body for it. It’s Lucifer’s awakening…
Yue Katô~
Drug dealer, he is one of Kira’s best friends. Rosiel has difficulties possessing and controlling him because of his drug addiction. Setsuna (in fact Alexiel at that moment) kills him in anger as Katou (controlled and possessed by Rosiel) had just decapitated Kira.
Later, in hell, Katou guides Setsuna to Yggdrasil, the Tree of the Universe, and reveals to him his traumatised childhood. He leaves Setsuna and stays in Hades when Setsuna goes back to Earth, running from Enn’rao.
He appears on Earth, pretending to be the Savior Angel, helped by Uriel’s magic and provokes Michael. Therefore, he allows the reunification of the Four elemental angels, Michael still being followed by Raphael and Sara/Gabriel believing they can see Setsuna/the Savior Angel again.
Ruri Saiki~
She is in Sara’s class and is her friend. She has a power: she can see people’s aura, which keeps her apart from the other students. As she falls in love with Setsuna, she meets Katan who gives her the video game “Angel Sanctuary”. She is then controlled by the program which makes her hate Sara. Rosiel absorbs her spiritual power later on and her data. She dies after the destruction of her body. Rosiel will use her body to trick Setsuna and Sara and try to kill them.
